A Feasibility Study On The Use Of Born Against Concrete Units

A Feasibility Study On The Use Of Born Against Concrete Units

ABSTRACT
Booming construction activities impose heavy demand on the construction materials especially on the components of Concrete. It has been proved beyond doubt that use of natural aggregates would lead to many environmental problems and also the demolition and disposal of old concrete can lead to solid waste disposal problems. Since all the developing countries are focusing on the sustainable technology, it is felt that use of demolished concrete as a substitute for natural aggregate can be a panacea for many problems. However the previous researchers have found use of recycled concrete leads to reduced strength and other properties. In this work, the demolished concrete from field is obtained, treated by simple techniques to
improve its properties and then used for making concrete. This reborn concrete with 100% replacement of aggregate is compared with normal concrete has been found to have higher compressible, split tensile strength. Further investigation included in the use of this reborn concrete in making wall units similar to that available in the market of size 375mm x 200mm x 100mm. The blocks with reborn concrete have shown higher compressible strength, lower water absorption, higher shear bond strength and comparatively lower weight when compared to existing similar unit available in market. Thus the feasibility study has given satisfactory result for field implementation and case study.
